Day 122 - 1 Chronicles 21-23

ONE-YEAR JOURNEY OF THE BIBLE
Day 122 - 1 Chronicles 21-23 (God's Magniificent House)

"Now David said, "Solomon my son is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the LORD must be exceedingly magnificent, famous and glorious throughout all countries. I will now make preparation for it." So David made abundant preparations before his death."  (1 Chronicles 22:5)

It was king David who first had it in his heart to build a temple for God but God told him that because he had shed much blood in wars it would be his son Solomon who would build Him a house (1 Chronicles 22:8-10).  So the next best thing that David did was to make all the necessary preparations of materials for the temple of God as we read in our text above.

There was one requirement which David had for the temple to be built by his son Solomon - it needed to be "exceedingly magnificent, famous and glorious throughout all countries."  And so it was; perhaps no other structure made by man ever matched the magnificence and glory of the temple of Solomon.

You might be wondering, "Why did David have such a requirement for the temple of God?"  The reason is because as a prophet of God, David understood the nature of God as recorded in the many psalms that he wrote including this one:

        "O LORD, our Lord,
How excellent is Your name in all the earth,
Who have set Your glory above the heavens!"
        (Psalm 8:1)

The Bible records that Solomon's temple was destroyed by king Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon in 586 B.C.  King Herod later rebuilt the temple but the same was also destroyed by the Romans in A.D. 70.  The New Testament teaches that God's temple now is the body of every follower of Christ as the apostle Paul wrote to the saints in Corinth:

"To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in            Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the              name of Jesus Christ our Lord...do you not know that your body is the                temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and              you are not your own?"  (1 Corinthians 1:2, 6:19)

What an awesome thought!  Those of us who possess the Holy Spirit of God are the very temple of God today!  Since that is true, we who are the saints of God, being the temple of God ought to display God's magnificence and glory to the world by becoming the salt and light of the world as Jesus taught.

Are you a follower of Christ?  Do you possess the Holy Spirit?  If so, the Bible says that you are a saint of God and that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and that you and I need to live our lives in such a way as to declare God's magnificence and glory to the world.
