Day 311 - John 10 - 11

ONE-YEAR JOURNEY OF THE BIBLE
Day 311 - John 10 - 11 (Did Jesus Claim To Be God?)

'My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.  And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.  My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand.  I and My Father are one." Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him.  Jesus answered them, "Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?"  The Jews answered Him, saying, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God."'  (John 11:27-33)

There are several religions that do not believe Jesus is God yet consider themselves Christians.  Among those are Jehovah's Witness, Mormons, and Iglesia Ni Cristo.  These are major cults that are very agressive in their efforts to win converts.  It is very crucial, therefore, for all who count themselves as Christians, to understand if Christ claimed to be God or not.  Why? Because if He did and proved it, then you need to run away from those cults as fast as you can.

When the Jews who did not believe in Jesus asked Him whether or not He was the Christ, Jesus answered them by using the analogy of a shepherd and his sheep.  Then He said what was unthinkable to the Jews, He said His sheep are in His hands and also in the Father's hand essentially making Himself and God the same.  As if to allay any doubt about the point He was driving at, He said, "I and the Father are one."

Opponents of the diety of Christ would explain that Jesus never meant by His statement that He and God the Father were the same but that they were one in spirit or whatever.  The true test, however, of the actual intent of Jesus' claim is in how His audience, in this case the unbelieving Jews, understood what He said.

The apostle John who wrote the book by his name records that the all the Jews who heard Jesus understood that He was claiming to be God, "The Jews answered Him, saying, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God," and they backed up their accusation by picking up stones to stone Him for blasphemy.

Yes, the Bible establishes Jesus' claim as God but did Jesus prove His claim?  Absolutely!  Jesus overwhelmingly proved His claim as God by fulfilling more than three hundred prophecies about the Messiah the greatest of which is His resurrection.

Have you doubted Jesus as God?  Look at the facts that all prove Jesus' claim to be God.  Do not let your bias keep you from entering the kingdom of God by refusing to believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
