Day 321 - Acts 6 - 11

ONE-YEAR JOURNEY OF THE BIBLE
Day 321 - Acts 6 - 11 (What Makes a Person a True Christian?)
(To View Past Posts Click: http:/tonyvicreyes1-yearbible.blogspot.com/ )

"Then Barnabas departed for Tarsus to seek Saul.  And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch."  (Acts 11:25-26)

Here's a fun fact for you: did you know that those who were first called Christians were the disciples from Antioch? That's what we learn from our text above.  What is more important, however, is what it truly means to be a Christian.

Thankfully, our brief Scripture text for today gives us a clue to what a Christian is.  A Christian is a disciple of Jesus Christ.  Conversely, a disciple is a Christian.  So, what is a disciple of Jesus Christ?  The word disciple means a student or follower; therefore, a disciple of Christ is His follower.

No wonder Jesus said,  "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed (John 8:31)."  To abide in the Word of Christ means to obey His word.  Jesus made it very clear that only those who will follow or obey Him can qualify as His disciple.

Are you a follower of Christ?  Do you abide in His Word, obeying it at all cost?  I urge you to carefully consider the alternative if you are not one of Christ's disciples.  Besides the fact that you are not yet a Christian, unless you become one your eternal destiny is that of separation from Christ:

"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will                 of My Father in heaven.   Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your                     name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?'  And then I will declare to               them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'   (Matthew 7:21-23)
