Day 3 - Genesis 7-10

ONE-YEAR JOURNEY OF THE BIBLE
Day 3 - Genesis 7-10 (Noah’s Ark of Deliverance)

“And Noah did according to all that the Lord commanded him.  Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters were on the earth. … All in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, all that was on the dry land, died.  So He destroyed all living things which were on the face of the ground: both man and cattle, creeping thing and bird of the air. They were destroyed from the earth. Only Noah and those who were with him in the ark remained alive. … “  (Genesis 7:5-6, 23)

The story of Noah and of the world-wide flood that destroyed all life on earth apart from those that were in the ark is one of the most significant events in history.  Because of it, life continues today but not without the obedience of that one man, Noah.

Despite all odds against him and his family, Noah obeyed what would have been the most ridiculous instruction to build a giant ship which took him one hundred years to build because God told him that He will send rain on the earth for forty days and nights when it had never rained on earth since God created Adam and Eve.

I can just imagine the ridicule that Noah endured from the people around him for one hundred years as he was building the ark the size of a football field:  “Hey crazy man, when will water drop from the sky and fill the earth?”   “My cow spoke to me this morning that it can’t wait to get inside your ark with its mate along with every pair of all the other animals.”

The Bible described what Noah thought of during those difficult days of his life:  “By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.”  (Hebrews 11:7)

God promised that He will never again destroy the earth with flood and gave the rainbow as a sign of His covenant.  The apostle Peter, however, warns that in the last days it will be exactly like the days of Noah and God will again destroy the earth, not with water but with fire:

“knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation." For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water.  But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.”  (2 Peter 3:4-7)

Just as Noah built an ark to save him and his family, God has provided a type of ark in Jesus Christ and those who take refuge in Him will be saved from the judgment of fire that is coming to this earth as sure as the flood came in the days of Noah just as God said it would.  Have you taken refuge for yourself and your family in Christ?
