Day 185 = Psalm 108-112

ONE-YEAR JOURNEY OF THE BIBLE
Day 185 - Psalm 108-112 (Give It Up to Prayer)

"They have also surrounded me with words of hatred,
And fought against me without a cause.
In return for my love they are my accusers,
But I give myself to prayer."
        (Psalm 185:3b-4)

This particular prayer of David was at the time when several from of his trusted officials betrayed him in making Absalom king in his place.  I can imagine how difficult it must have been for a man such as David to give up his troubles to prayer rather than taking matters into his own hands which no doubt came more naturally to David as a man of war.

David cried out in anguish to God regarding those who have paid his love with hatred and his good with evil.  Can you relate with David?  Have you ever had a heart-breaking experience like his?  Has there been someone whom you loved and done good who repayed you with evil?  What what your reaction?

If you gave yourself to God in prayer, you did what every child of God needs to do in such a situation.  Even for the spiritually mature believers, it is easier to fall prey to our natural tendency to fight back our false attackers rather than giving ourserlves to prayer and letting God deal with our enemies.

As in several other Psalms, our text for today is also a prophecy about the Messiah's suffering as evidenced in Acts 1:20 and in Matthew 27:39.  We know that Jesus gave Himself completely to His Father in prayer during His passion and crucifixion.  Our Lord expects us as His followers to do no less.

Are you in despair because of someone whom you love who has repaid you with evil?  Give yourself to God in prayer as David and Jesus did because it is what God expects you as His child to do.
