"And the Philistine said to David, "Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!"  Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.  This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.  Then all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD's, and He will give you into our hands."  (1 Samuel 17:44-47)

Who doesn't love the story of David and Goliath?  David, the underdog, a young teenage  shepherd boy facing off with a giant over 9 feet tall whose whose armor alone weighed as much as David!  We all know the story - David armed only with his slingshot and his shepherd's rod takes Goliath down and cuts his head off.  The battle between Israel's army and that of the Philistines ensues and the Philistines flee for their lives.

The story of David and Goliath is always used to describe incredible matching odds.  Not too long ago, we had a guest speaker at our church named Daniel Massieh, an Egyptian from a prominent Muslim family who converted to Christ. In his book entitled, Traitor, Daniel recounts his many experiences of overcoming impossible odds which by all standards could only be described as a miracle.  One such miracle was when his young son drowned and was pronounced dead for over an hour but then came back to life when Daniel got to the scene of the accident and prayed to God to bring his son back to life.

The stories of David and Goliath as well as that of Daniel and his son proves that there is a God who makes the impossible possible for those who put their trust in Him.  Of course, God may not choose to perform the miracle you need and when that is the case, we must believe that He has His reasons and that we must not lose faith but accept whatever outcome God decides to give us.

Are you facing a giant of a situation in your life right now?  Perhaps it could be a job need or a health issue or a relationship problem?  Whatever the odds of overcoming your problem, with God all things are possible.  Face your giant with courage and faith in God and trust and praise Him for the results, no matter how it turns out.  In the end, it is not the victory of our struggle that counts but rather, it is our attitude towards God and the outcome of our struggles in life, whether or not we will continue to trust God, that matters.
