Day 85 - 1 Samuel 19-21

ONE-YEAR JOURNEY OF THE BIBLE
Day 85- 1 Samuel 19-21 (Do You Have Divine Protection?)

"Now the distressing spirit from the LORD came upon Saul as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand. And David was playing music with his hand.  Then Saul sought to pin David to the wall with the spear, but he slipped away from Saul's presence; and he drove the spear into the wall. So David fled and escaped that night."  (1 Samuel 19:9-10)

If you've read my last post and are wondering what happened to David after he killed Goliath, I suggest you read the rest of the story yourself.  But just in case you are in a mad rush to get going, the following paragraphs is a quick snapshot of the what transpired next.

Remember Jonathan from a previous post?  After David did an ISIS to Goliath in cutting his head off, "Jonathan's soul was knit to tha soul of David" (1 Samuel 18:1) and the two became soul-mates, what else?  David quickly rises in the military ranks as head of Israel's army and becomes the darling of all the women as expressed in their song:

        "Saul has slain his thousands,
        And David his ten thousands."

As could be expected, Saul became very angry and jealous of David because of his poplularity and from then on sought to kill him.  Twice, Saul threw his spear at David while David was playing his harp to calm the king's spirit and David escaped both times.  The above text was Saul's second attempt to pin David to the wall.

There are many other exciting events that transpired in the life of David before this time and after this and you are really missing out on a lot if you do not read the whole story.  Anyway, why in the world did I choose the text above for today's devotion?  Well, I believe that we can learn about God's protection of His children from His protection of David.

The Bible says that God so values every person that He even counts the number of hair on our head.  Since that is so, it follows that nothing in this world can touch even a single hair on our head without God's approval.  For those who trust and obey God like David did, we are assured of God's protection from any danger or enemy.

Conversely, for those who are living in rebellion against God, they are living outside of His will and His divine protection and should rightly be afraid of danger ahead.  If you happen to be in this category of people, I urge you to ask God's forgiveness for your rebellion and start trusting and obeying Him today.
