Day 90 - 2 Samuel 4-7

ONE-YEAR JOURNEY OF THE BIBLE
Day 90- 2 Samuel 4-7 (How to Receive Major Blessings from God)

"The ark of the LORD remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite three months. And the LORD blessed Obed-Edom and all his household.  Now it was told King David, saying, "The LORD has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God." So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with gladness."  (2 Samuel 6:11-12)

Before the happy blessing of God on the house of Obed-Edom, there was the curse of God on Uzzah the priest who touched the Ark of God when the oxen stumbled.  Instead of continuing on to Jerusalem where the Ark of God was to dwell permanently, David became afraid after the Uzzah incident and decided to leave the Ark at the house of Obed-Edom.

We are told in our text above that in just three months that the Ark of the Lord stayed at the house of Obed-Edom, God blessed him and all his household. Now, there was no way that the blessing mentioned by the author of 2 Samuel could have been just a minor blessing for if it were, then the news that "The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him, because of the Ark" (2 Samuel 6:12a) would never have reached King David and that David would not have "brought up the Ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the city of David" (2 Samuel 6:12b).

Therefore, we can be sure that the blessing of God on Obed-Edom and his household was of major proportions.  This should be of no surprise to us who are believers in the one true God.  Major blessings should be expected by the person who lets God dwell in his life and home for no person can remain the same when God sits on the throne of his life and home.

What does it mean when we say that God dwells in the life of a person?  It means that God is in control of that person's thoughts, words and actions moment by moment not by force but because that person has learned how to depend on God for everything.

Imagine if God physically lived with you even for just 24 hours; how would you live your life differently every moment of that full day and night?  I would imagine that you would not make any decision without first asking God what He thought about it and how it would affect your fellowship for that short duration of precious time that you have God at your side, literally.  That is exactly what it means when God dwells in your life and home.

Is God living in your life and home?  If you answer yes, is He in control of everything in your life?  If you cannot answer yes, will you ask His forgiveness right now for keeping Him out of your life for so long?  And will you start today to let God dwell in your life and start living for Him instead of for yourself?
