Day 154 - Job 10-16

ONE-YEAR JOURNEY OF THE BIBLE
Day 154 - Job 10-16 (Your Life is Fleeting Like a Flower But You Don't Have to be Afraid to Die)

"Man who is born of woman is of few days and full of trouble.  He comes forth like a flower and fades away; he flees like a shadow and does not continue... Since his days are determined, the number of his months is with You; You have appointed his limits, so that he cannot pass."  (Job 14:1-5)

Job missed the biggest truth about the tragedy that had befallen him, that is, that God was not the one responsible for it nor was he the one hurting Job as he claimed.  Job, however, did get many things right about God, one of which is his wisdom nugget in our text above regarding brevity of human life.

Job recognized that man's life on earth is very short compared to eternity and that it is full of troubles.  He compared it to a flower that blooms and then fades away after a few days.  Job also understood the truth that man's days are numbered by God and He has appointed the hour of his death.

Humanity is basically divided into two groups: on the one hand, there is the group of people who see this life as all there is and they naturally try to get the most out of everything they can because they do not have the hope of life beyond the material world.  Although they may not show it, they are terrified of the prospect of death since it means the end of everything near and dear to them.

On the other hand, there is the group of people who know without a shadow of doubt that they will live forever in heaven because of what Jesus has done on the cross in paying the penalty for their sins.  These blessed people are not afraid to die as the first group is because they understand that death is simply an entrance into perfect bliss forever in the presence of God free from all the troubles this sinful world bring.

If you belong to the latter group I described, you already know the wonderful blessing of being an heir with Christ of eternal life in heaven.  But if you think that you belong to the first group, you do not have to despair any longer because you can know for sure that you will live forever.  How?  Read the words of Jesus below and just do as He says and you can have the assurance of eternal life.  Why?  Because Jesus says so and He cannot lie:

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him                    should not perish but have everlasting life."   (John 3:16)
