Day 156 - Job 21-27

ONE-YEAR JOURNEY OF THE BIBLE
Day 157 - Job 21-27 (Passing the Test of Obedience)

       "But He knows the way that I take;
        When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.
        My foot has held fast to His steps;
        I have kept His way and not turned aside.
        I have not departed from the commandment of His lips;
        I have treasured the words of His mouth
        More than my necessary food."
        (Job 23:10-12)

Job was right about his declaration concerning his own integrity in our text above.  The great blessing of having the Bible, God's Word, in our hands today is that we have the benefit of hindsight and can know so much more than the characters we read about could have ever known.  At the end of the book of Job, we learn that Job indeed came forth as gold after his severe testing by God.

Job also gave the reason in our text above for how he was able to come forth as gold from his testing: he regarded God's Word above all else in his life and he was faithful in obeying it.  David, another pillar of faith in the Old Testament, also treasured God's Word above everything else in his life.  Read what he wrote below:
            "Oh, how I love Your law!
            It is my meditation all the day.
            Your word is a lamp to my feet
            And a light to my path."
            (Psalm 119:97, 105)

Despite David's grave sins of adultery and murder and because of his love for God and His Word, God extended His boundless grace upon him and elevated David and gave him the title Prince of Israel forever and a man's after God's own heart among many others.

The life testimonies of both Job and David should give you and me tremendous encouragement and inspiration to regard God's Word above any other thing in our lives and to be faithful in obeying God's commandments all the rest of the days of our lives here on this earth.

Even if you have failed God miserably because of some grave sin in your life, you can, like David, still come forth as gold if you humble yourself before God and ask for His forgiveness and resolve to live the rest of your life in faithful obedience to His Word.

If this is the desire of your heart today, you must begin to read God's Word the Bible regularly and count is as your daily bread as Jesus commanded.  Then, you must at all cost, obey everything that God through the Holy Spirit reveals to you in His Word.  There is no other way to pass the test of God at the end of our lives apart from doing the above.

"O Lord, please help me and all who desire to follow you faithfully to be able to do so.  Protect us from the evil one who will try to bring us down and fail you.  Give us a deep love for your Word so that we would like Job and David treasure it more than our food.  Help us to come forth as gold after you have tested us through many trials.  In Jesus name we pray, amen."
